Hunting and Survival in the Bush
By Reuben Marshall Year 7

control Hello, my name is Reuben Marshall, and my speech is about hunting and survival in the bush. There are four things needed for hunting and survival in the bush. They are:

  1. The right attitude.
  2. Something to light a fire and cook with.
  3. First aid equipment and a map
  4. Weapons

1. The right attitude means going there and looking after yourself and giving it your best. Be aware of landmarks like the big Rimu tree and the fallen log. Watch for signs of animals and tread quietly and carefully. Plan where you are going and what time you will be back.

take matches 2. Carry matches in a waterproof bag or take a candle.
Food: Must be sustainable and easy to carry, that's the story. You could take energy food like raisins or dried fruit for snacks. Cheese and chocolate, some bread or sugar, milk powder, dehydrated meat and vegetables are handy. Tea, Sugar and Coffee or fruit drink powder, help to keep your energy up.

3. Keep it small and light. Sticking plaster and a bandage could be handy. A painkiller is sometimes needed. A torch and survival blanket is also handy. You could carry a compass and a map.

4. You must always be very careful when crossing rivers. Never cross a river in flood.

5. Weapons, Guns, knives and ammunition should be packed and carried carefully.

look for tracks If you are hunting, you should look for animal sign like tracks and wallows and you must be very quiet. The most important thing when hunting is to identify your target before you shoot. Many accidents happen: - being shot accidentally. In our area most of the hunting is deer stalking and pig hunting.

A bush trip can be fun if you take all the right equipment and take care.
